Monoprint Study #2 – experiment in colour + medium

Monoprint with Pastel + Ink: Blue + Orange Field and Flowers (7.5″ x 9.5″ – 190.5 mm x 241.3 mm)

Blue + Orange Field and Flowers –
an experiment in colour + medium

This is a monoprint experiment where I created a series of coloured stripes following the style and process that I used in Monoprint #1. I was feeling in a bright mood and the layers of colours didn’t come out as pleasing as I’d hoped, so once the print was dry I added oil pastel and black ink to the surface in some areas So this is no longer a true “monoprint”, but rather a mixed media piece with an illustration style. I wish I’d taken a “before” photo!

I’d love to do more of this, it was so much fun. I have lots of monoprint “practice pieces” that weren’t very successful on their own that I can embellish to my heart’s content and watch them transform. Next time I’ll be sure to take “before” pics.

  1. I love this! The thought that went through my mind was, Nature’s Symphony, because of the illusion of a music scale, the flowers as notes, climbing the scale and creating some melody.
