This week’s painting challenge was to create an abstract using an Old Masters painting for inspiration. For reference we studied the work of the American abstract-expressionist painter Grace Hartigan. I’m happy to have learned about Grace for the first time – she is now one of my favourites.
This is my finished piece – “The Wait”
The Old Masters painting I used for inspiration is “Allegory of Fidelity” by the Italian artist Tintoretto:

Yes, I changed the dog into a bird…
That’s why abstract art is so much fun – you can just run with it.
