I’m way behind but had to stop here and just take it all in. The complexity of the detail that evolves is captivating. It’s like gazing into the chaos of the universe and knowing that it all behaves to well ordered rules of balance and symmetry. The chaos we see is simply the limitations of the mind to understand. The truth of it is in seeing that balance and symmetry within the complexity of detail.

You SO get me. Thank you for your brilliant comment. Not to sound too corny but: I ask each new painting to speak to me, and I really immerse myself – even in the light-hearted work I’ve been doing. Yesterday my husband stood in the doorway to my very small art space and said; “Deb” and my breath caught and I nearly jumped out of my skin because I didn’t hear him or see him. I’m so easily startled because I’m so deep inside something. It doesn’t come right away, I need to fool around with something else for an hour or so to truly enter my creative zone. So this piece took awhile, both in the doing and the getting ready. The old 80/20 rule… 80% thinking & planning and 20% doing. Sometimes it’s 90/10. Watch out when I’m doing 10%, because it can get crazy. Meanwhile, I am so pleased that you like this! Thank you again. xo

That’s the true creative spirit to me. Getting lost in the work once you enter the zone is where the communication is deepest for me. It’s very evident in how you evolve your art and how you can see what it needs to be as you go through the creative process. I enjoy how you bring us along with you during some of your paintings. I’ve even appreciated how your imagery evolves in patterns and colors from one painting to the next.

About evolving imagery – I’m filing my art image files into folders on my mac and creating “series” folders. I’ll stick with something for a few paintings then something else happens and I’ll get stuck on a new thing until I feel the need to move on. I may go back to the series and explore more once my brain has had a rest. For example the Mosaic series, the Fish series, the Ribbons of Colour, the Wine Country.. Yesterday afternoon I started a couple of small under-paintings and I was thinking that the patterns could be fish-y. Also I may not have posted all the paintings to WP yet so they may seem out of order style-wise. Or maybe I’ve just resumed painting in that style? I don’t know. I find it difficult to re-create a style exactly because I’m not the same human as I was when I painted them. At the end of July I’m doing the online 7 week challenge again and I’m excited at what I’ll learn – the instructor REALLY challenges us and I know I pushed myself hard during the one that I did that started last Oct., which jump-started my creativity big time! OK, I’m going on… thank you my friend. xo

Thank you for the insights, Deb. I’m like that with my writing too. I find it difficult to follow prompts if it’s outside the “mood” my muse is in. Can’t wait to see what comes out of your challenge! 🙂
